Safe Driving Tips this Holiday

Christmas is nearly upon us and some of us will have to travel to spend the holiday with the family. Therefore to ensure all of our customers, friends and family have a happy and safe Christmas we have included as a reminder some general safe driving tips.

  • Make sure you get a few good nights' sleep before heading off
  • Ensure your car has a safety check up
  • Map out your trip – making sure there's plenty of time to get to your destination, so you aren't tempted to speed or skip rest stops;
  • Take regular breaks (at least one every two hours) and pull over for a power nap as soon you feel tired;
  • Always share the driving where possible;
  • Make sure all vehicle occupants wear restraints, including pets; and
  • Make sure all luggage is properly secured and won't become projectiles in the case of sudden braking.
  • Never drink alcohol, not even small amounts, before or during a long trip; and if you are heading out to a Christmas function, make sure you have a plan, such as a designated driver, money for a cab or organized to stay at a friends place.
  • Always choose an appropriate speed for the conditions and stay within the speed limits;
  • Go slow on unfamiliar roads or in different weather conditions, such as towing a caravan or driving in the rain. These types of situations require more concentration and extra care on the driver's behalf.
  • Kids are not usually known for their patience and a long journey can turn into a parental nightmare.  So, make sure to bring plenty of games or movies to watch just keep the kids occupied.

With all the rush around, it is quiet easy to become fatigued during this time and drivers may be tempted to put their foot down to 'make up time' – putting themselves, their passengers and other road-users at risk. Some of the signs of fatigue include;

  • Yawning
  • Sore or heavy eyes
  • Slower reaction times
  • Finding you're daydreaming or not concentrating on your driving
  • Driving speed creeps up or down
  • Impatience
  • Impaired driving performance such as poor gear changes
  • Stiffness and cramps

If you start to experience any of these symptoms, its time to pull over, take a break, have a power nap and grab a cup of coffee.

Preparation and planning are key in arriving safely at your destination. So whether you're heading off for a long weekend, an interstate journey or just across town to a friends place, there are a number of simple things you can do to ensure you complete your trip relaxed and safe.

On behalf of Hubler Automotive Group, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Chevrolet Cruze Goes ‘Shields Up’ for Max Protection

Check out our 2012 Chevrolet Cruze line up

DETROIT – When it comes to making sure the Chevrolet Cruze is as durable as it can be, Dave Schoener and his teammates are all wet.
As a General Motors splash test engineer, Schoener helped develop an innovative splash shield for the Chevrolet Cruze that protects the engine compartment from water and potentially harmful contaminants.
In addition, the splash shields, a segment exclusive in the Cruze, help prevent underbody corrosion by repelling water, dirt and mud. They also contribute to the Cruze's fuel economy – an EPA-estimated 42 mpg highway for Cruze Eco – by reducing wind drag.
"With the Cruze, you have a very comprehensive splash protector on an entry sedan that you typically wouldn't see except in high-end luxury vehicles," said Schoener.
Schoener recommended adding underbody shields to the Cruze after observing repeated splash tests in GM's new $1.4-million Flooded Road Lab at the company's Milford, Mich. Proving Ground.

GM Celebrates 100 Millionth Small-Block Engine

General Motors Co. celebrated the production of the 100 millionth small-block engine on Tuesday — the venerable heart of many GM vehicles over the past 56 years. Chevrolet unveiled the small-block in 1955, and the engine has been used in GM vehicles around the world. Today it can be found in global Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac vehicles, as well as Vauxhall in the United Kingdom and Holden in Australia. The production milestone comes during the same month Chevrolet is celebrating its centennial as a brand.  Congratulations to Chevy for being the Heart Beat of America for 100 years!

"GM hit a huge milestone, building its 100-millionth (that's 100,000,000) small-block engine, 56 years after its first one rolled off its production line. And in something that almost seems planned, the 100-millionth small-block came in the same month GM celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Used in GM vehicles around the world, the small-block engine can be found in Chevrolets, GMCs, Cadillacs, Vauxhalls and Holdens. The 100-millionth small block was none other than the 638-hp supercharged LS9 powerplant, found in the Corvette ZR1, and was hand-built at GM's Performance Build Center. Unfortunately no lucky owner will be blessed with the milestone engine, GM will be preserving it as part of its historical collection. The small-block engine delivers guilt-free performance," said Winegarden. "It is the quintessential V-8 engine and a living legend that is more relevant than ever." More importantly, GM is already looking into the future with their announcement that the fifth-generation small-block is under development and will feature a new direct-injection combustion system helping enhance efficiency over the current-generation power plant.

GM's rich history of the small-block started in 1955 with a 4.3L 195-hp powerplant, and its future is surely looking bright after 56 years of brilliant success.

The Hubler Auto Group was proud to sponsor the 2011 911 SlugFest last night.  This annual event at the State Fairgrounds consisted of 11 action packed bouts between Fire and Police Department.  It can down to the final bout to determine this year's champion.  A close, split decision gave the trophy to the Police.  With over 2,000 in attendance it had an atmosphere of a world title fight with a lot of pride on the line.  It was also a night for our finest Police and Fire Fighters to pay homage in a memorial to those who have fallen protecting us all.  Over 90% of all money raised goes directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help out deserving kids in our community.  Hubler was so happy to be part of the event and donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  We will see you next year at this great event for charity.

Why Nitrogen in Tires?

Ever notice your tires loose air pressure in the winter?  Why is that?  One reason is that air is much more susceptible to temperature changes than other gases like nitrogen. There are several compelling reasons to use pure nitrogen in tires.

First is that nitrogen is less likely to migrate through tire rubber than is oxygen, which means that your tire pressures will remain more stable over the long term.  Tires filled with nitrogen rather than air also exhibit less pressure change with temperature swings. That means more consistent inflation pressures in cold and heat.

Your vehicle can benefit from the more stable tire pressures and your tires will wear more evenly.  But there's more: Humidity (water) is a Bad Thing to have inside a tire. Water, present as a vapor or even as a liquid in a tire, causes more of a pressure change with temperature swings than dry air does. It also promotes corrosion of the steel or aluminum rim.   Nitrogen filled tires keep the moisture out.

With nitrogen, your tire pressures will remain more constant, saving you a small amount in fuel and tire-maintenance costs. There will be less moisture inside your tires, meaning less corrosion on your wheels. You will not be able to feel any difference in the ride or handling or braking but you will notice that you won't be out in the cold putting air in your tires!  All new vehicle bought at Hubler dealerships come with nitrogen in the tires for free.  If you have any questions about nitrogen just ask any of our advisors in the service department.  Come in, Click or Call Today

Winter is coming…

Are you ready?  The autumn colors and cool mornings can only mean one thing, winter will be here soon.  The fall is the best time of year to make sure your vehicle is ready for winter driving conditions.  Regular maintenance and inspections makes sure you or your passengers won't be left out in the cold.  Keeping up with your factory recommended maintenance schedule improves reliability and gives you superior control of your vehicle at all times.

An added benefit is that a properly maintained vehicle will operate more efficiently which will reduce gas expense.  Experts say that before winter you should have your battery tested to ensure your vehicle starts on cold mornings, check tire tread depth to make sure your tires are not worse and will keep you on the road safe, have tires rotated to ensure even tire wear, make sure your wiper blades are in good shape to clear the snow and ice off your windshield, top off your windshield wiper fluid, and make sure your heater blower is operating properly.

It is also important to makes sure your differential is working correctly.  The differential controls the speed of the left and right wheels and allows the wheels to rotate at different speeds while turning or if you are slipping on ice.  A differential service removes old contaminated fluid and replaces it with manufacturer approved new fluid as well as cleans the gear box and surface areas.

All Hubler locations offer free 27-pt. vehicle inspections, check tire air pressure and will top off all fluids for you. This free "pit pass" is the first step to make sure you are ready for the winter driving season. Schedule Today and Happy motoring!

Hubler Chevrolet and Hubler Mazda was Proud to Sponsor the Central Nine Career Center Safe Halloween Event!

On Thursday night Central Nine Career Center in Greenwood had the 3rd annual Safe Halloween Event for the local community.  Hubler Chevrolet and Hubler Mazda were proud to help sponsor this event.  It is so important to provide kids with a safe environment to trick or treat.  The entire facility was transformed into a haunted house and over 5,000 ghosts and goblins came in for a scary night and tons of free candy.  Attendance has doubled every year and it really was a lot of fun! Hubler is dedicated to supporting our local community and we were glad to help out.  All the kids loved the candy and some got there pictures taken inside the “pumpkin” colored Camaro and “scary” black Mazda 3.  We even gave out some free service coupons and carwashes so the parents had a “treat” of there own.  We will see you there next year!

Reasons to buy Chevrolet Cruze

 Now Chevrolet Cruze Eco has established itself as a genuine player among environmentally friendly small sedans. Chevrolet Cruze has plenty of features for you to like not to mention it sips fuel, with new exterior design it's easy on the eyes, and it's got an unusually solid feel on the road you will not get that from yesteryear's compacts, which you can say were penalty boxes that you had to put up with till you could afford something little better, this Chevy is a genuine alternative to larger cars, offering all the features you want in a much more efficient package. Let us give some reasons you should consider taking a closer look.

Reasons to buy the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze:

Plenty of Features: The Cruze Eco may be a fuel miser, but it's hardly stingy when it comes to creature comforts. Standard niceties include air conditioning, power accessories, a tilting/telescoping steering wheel, satellite radio, and GM's OnStar telematics service. An affordable options package adds Bluetooth, a USB port, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and cruise control.

Reasonable Price: The 2012 Cruze Eco starts at just over $19,000 with the manual transmission and about $20,000 with the automatic. That's pretty reasonable for such a strong all-around package. Most cars with this kind of fuel economy don't have the Cruze's confidence-inspiring ride and handling, nor its pleasing design inside and out. Considering how few compromises the Cruze Eco requires, we consider it a bargain.

Awesome Interior: It's a new era at General Motors, and the Cruze Eco's cabin is a great example. The dashboard has an upscale rakish slant and plentiful aluminum-look accents, while the front seats are comfortable and nicely contoured. Even the steering wheel feels like it belongs in a more upscale vehicle. It's always a pleasant surprise when a small sedan seems more expensive inside than it really is.

Rugged Styling: Rather than adopt the "look at me!" styling favored by some small-sedan rivals, the Cruze Eco keeps it classy. There's real substance in the way this car looks, from its clean, crisp character lines to its confident stance. It's a sophisticated design, and also one that's likely to age well. Just one more reason why the tidy Cruze Eco is an enticing alternative to larger, more expensive four-doors.

Wait there's more. often said that 40 is the new 30. Usually people are referencing age. But in the car world, manufacturers are racing to deliver 40-mpg highway ratings to buyers who are fed up with rising gas prices and dwindling paychecks.
The Chevrolet Cruze Eco is a viable small car alternative that reaches that rarefied 40-mpg highway air. It competes directly with a whole bunch of cars, including the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, Mazda 3, Mitsubishi Lancer, Nissan Sentra, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Jetta.
Perhaps you've driven a few of these in your quest for better fuel economy. If you're still on the fence about which car to choose, here are five reasons to drive the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Eco.

Remarkable Fuel Economy: Aided by lightweight wheels, low rolling resistance tires, and novel airflow management system with automated grille flaps, the Cruze Eco gets up to 28 miles per gallon in the city and 42 mpg on the highway. That's about as good as it gets for a non-hybrid sedan. Those numbers only apply to the smooth-shifting six-speed manual transmission, but even if you opt for the six-speed automatic, the Cruze Eco still registers a healthy 26-mpg city and 39-mpg highway.

 Go ahead test drive a Cruze today.

About South Central Indiana Corvette Club:
  The South Central Indiana Corvette Club was started in 1992 by four men who loved The Great American Sports Car - The Corvette!   These charter members of the club decided to have a car show.  At the first car show there were 4 Corvettes, 4 men, and one boom box with two speakers.  While enjoying their show they discussed how to bring in other members who loved the Corvette as much as they.  Each year the club grew more than the year before.  By 1999 the club had established a partnership with a charity.  The proceeds from that show, a few hundred dollars, were donated to The Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis.  Our 18th Annual Car Show in August 2010 was a success.  We had over 52 cars participate from all over the state, and outside the state as well.  The proceeds from our 2010 car show were over $4,000 for the Ronald McDonald House.  Our club grand total donation to date is over $74,000 for Ronald McDonald House.

Beating The Heat Wave

We want everyone to have a safe and fun summer. Heat wave has come upon us and we want everyone to be cautious during heat advisories.

http://www.theindychannel.com/weather/28505255/detail.html

A heat wave is building and could reach dangerous levels in parts of the Midwest, the Plains and the Southeast this week.Fifteen states are under heat advisories, which means temperatures are expected to exceed 105 degrees Fahrenheit.Kansas City and St. Louis in Missouri are under an excessive heat warning, along with Tulsa, Oklahoma; Memphis, Tennessee; and Evansville, Indiana. In these areas, the heat index, or how hot the body feels due to the combined effects of heat and humidity, will reach between 110 and 115 degrees this week.

Here are some Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke Overview and prevention.

Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke Overview

Heat exhaustion: This condition often occurs when people exercise (work or play) in a hot, humid place and body fluids are lost through sweating, causing dehydration and overheating of the body. The person's temperature may be elevated, but not above 104 F (40 C).

Heat stroke: Heat stroke, also referred to as heatstroke or sun stroke, is a life-threatening medical condition. The person's cooling system, which is controlled by the brain, stops working and the internal body temperature rises to the point at which brain damage or damage to other internal organs may result (temperature may reach 105 F or greater [40.5 C or greater]).

Nearly 700 people die each year due to heat-related illness, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Avoid heat exhaustion by not engaging in strenuous activity in hot, humid environments; and stay hydrated as prevention is the key.

Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke Causes

Heat exhaustion is typically caused when people who are not well adjusted to heat exercise or work in a hot, humid environment.

    At high temperatures, the body cools itself largely through evaporation of sweat.

    When it is very humid, this mechanism does not work properly.

    The body loses a combination of fluids and salts (electrolytes).

    When this is accompanied by an inadequate replacement of fluids, disturbances in the circulation may result that are similar to a mild form of shock.

Heat stroke may often develop rapidly.

    Medical conditions or medications that impair the body's ability to sweat may predispose people to this problem.

    Heat stroke happens in the following two ways:

        The classic form occurs in people whose cooling mechanisms are impaired.

        The exertional form occurs in previously healthy people who are undergoing strenuous activity in a hot environment.

    Infants, children under the age of 4, the overweight, and the elderly are more likely to have this problem, as are those who are taking antihistamines and certain types of medication for high blood pressure, heart disease, or depression.
